Hike in Kerry with The Lodge & Reeks Guiding Company

About John O’Sullivan

Hike Kerry mountains

I was born and raised at the foothills of the McGillycuddy Reeks where my family is one of the landowners for generations situated on the slopes of these mountains in this beautiful and wild area which includes Ireland’s Highest mountain Carrauntoohil 3414ft/1039m.

A local guide with years of experience

I spent my childhood working with my father sheep farming in this mountainous terrain and developed extensive knowledge and admiration of this rugged and beautiful area.

I have now been climbing in the Reeks for decades and know all these peaks and valleys intimately. I have extensive knowledge of safe routes to all summits in the region.

My passion for mountaineering and adventure has afforded me opportunities to climb worldwide including summits in the Alps, Scotland, Wales, Africa, New Zealand, Australia and Eastern Europe.

I am also a voluntary member of Kerry Mountain Rescue for the past 20 years.

I cater for all levels of fitness – I offer some walks that are easier (Let the others Rush!) and some that are more challenging, including some scrambling. We will also be covering the Kerry Way, Dingle Way, Cliffs of Moher.  In addition to Carrauntoohil we can also organise Day Trips by bus to the Hidden Valleys & Glens of the South West. For those interested in experiencing some of the longer walks, we can arrange for baggage transfers, hostels and other accommodation etc.

Train for Kilimanjaro!

From personal experience, the McGillycuddy Reeks are an ideal training ground for adventure seekers who are planning on climbing mountains like Kilimanjaro, the Alps and other major peaks. I canl customise a training day to meet your particular training needs.
